Report registration attempt if they haven't spammed my forum yet?

I currently block attempts to register in my forums if the IP or email address is listed in the StopForumSpam database. Should I go one step further and report these blocked attempts as spam to StopForumSpam.com, or should we only do so when a spammer has actually posted spam? What is common practice here?

Unless you're running a honeypot, don't do it until there's some sort of evidence of spamming.

Thanks for the response. That was my inclination as well. Does StopForumSpam have an official stance on this? The reason I ask is that I've released an extension for PunBB (SFS Antispam) and it has been requested that I add a feature to automatically report registration attempts as spam to SFS if their IP/email is listed. See the thread here: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/post/141646/#p141646

I would appreciate if an administrator of StopForumSpam could weigh in on the matter. Thanks!

Re: Report registration attempt if they haven't spammed my forum yet?

here´s a thought! In the Download section the oldest data is from the last 365 Days, so do inactive Spammers depart the DB after a Year? if so then to keep active Spammers in the DB would mean to submit denied registrations as they come.

cause if everyone checked the DB for an IP etc and not to report him/it, would open the doors automatically after that Year has passed and we would start all over again. On the other hand users that have a Dynamic IP would have trbl registering although they are not Spammers.

hmmmm does this make any sense to anyone..?.. somehow i got lost writing this
(my English is worse than i thought)

Thanks for the links. I had searched the forums here but hadn't come across those. That answers my question perfectly.
