Post for newbies needs an update

This discussion:
https://www.stopforumspam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=23284#p23284
contains a link to Lithium Studios PHPBB3 Anti-Spam ACP. That site has been gone for at least 5-6 years. I don't know if that product still exists or not, but I suspect not.

Also, Zaphod's ZB Block appears to be toast too, but I found this which looks like it was based on the original:
https://zb-block.net/zbf/index.php

Gunner's Forum Spam List Checker, judging from the screen capture and a single download zip file, looks to be a Windows-only program. He doesn't say so on his website, but if that's the case, it would be good to include that limitation in the discussion thread here at SFS. I was hoping it would be something I could upload and have run on my server, but that doesn't look to be the case.

Thanks,
Andrew

p.s. Those links are also included this this thread which could use an admin edit to add a disclaimer about broken links:

Re: Post for newbies needs an update

Well, yes, the old ZBBLOCK site has been gone for some time now, and this is correct:
https://zb-block.net/zbf/index.php

I vaguely remember Gunner saying he was working on a Linux version, but really, you would need to contact him about that. There is a contact option at the web site; a forum and guest book, also his e-mail. I don't know if it is still up to date or not. But yes, 10 years ago, it was only available for windows.
We do have a lot of topics and threads, with many posts and many are well over 10 years ago, and it is not at all surprising to hear that some of the links are no longer valid, also the info is not at all up to date.
I just kind of assume , most people would realize that when posts are 10+ years old, the info might no longer be at all relevant .  Maybe some time when I have nothing better to do, or more important, I will go through some of them and see what can be done.
Did you have something specific you need ? Many of the spam prevention methods and techniques that were used 10-15+ years ago, no longer apply now,  for example, if you wanted to start using ZBBLOCK, you should register to the forum: https://zb-block.net/zbf/index.php and ask them about getting started with it, everything needed is available, and up to date, current signatures, etc.
I am not sure about Gunners software, at the moment I do not have the free time to try contact him,  you should be able to do that, if you want to use that software, but originally it was written for windows, so I agree, unless your server is a windows server, or your pc, it probably will be of no use to you.
If we had a better detailed description of what it is you need to accomplish, OS, server software,etc,..I am sure some one can help you.

Re: Post for newbies needs an update

Hi Papa Parrot,

Thanks for the reply.

Since it was a sticky thread directed at newbies, I felt it was important to keep it updated. It comes across as disconcerting to first time visitors to read a thread directed at them only to find that half the links are broken . . . understanding, of course, that it's a volunteer organization! In my book, of all the threads here, that's one that really should be kept current.

I'm in the process of launching a phpBB3.2.5 forum, so I'm doing all my homework. The extension for phpBB, also called Stop Forum Spam—as you know—has some issues and is lacking some key features, but does provide some rudimentary benefit. I as investigating other spam defences, hence my visit and reading of the forums here.

Thanks again!
Andrew

Yes,  I know,

The extension for phpBB, also called Stop Forum Spam—as you know—has some issues

on this, I did some experimenting with that,  and  to be honest, if I was going to start a new forum, I would not use phpBB3.2.5  my self, but that is another topic,..
I will see about updating  those threads and topics, as soon as I can, to be honest I really don't have much free time , but I do agree, the stickies, and announcements need some work . Our "leader" site owner/admin also is very busy, so sometimes it takes a while to get some things done, obviously emergency situations take priority, but any way, thanks .

@AndrewUSA:

Thanks for that. I've got admin rights for some of those posts so have amended them to reflect your discoveries.
