screwed up my bb somehow
i tried manually adding email and ip addresses in the acp, i think i might have added too many or something. it wont let me add any more ip addresses in that section, and the ban email section is locked up. and it doesnt register new members any more.
does anyone know where the email ban list is stored?
i would delete the file if i could find it, but dont know where it is.
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Re: screwed up my bb somehow
it's probably in your SQL database, which you shouldn't be messing around with unless you know what your doing .
we are an anti-spam forum, so we can't help much with general forum software problems .
it's best to go to the support forum for the software you're using and ask them for help .

Re: screwed up my bb somehow
Hi Mosez,
This has happened to me as well. Unfortunately it's related to the character allotment in the SQL on your forums data base. I thought I'd be smart and upload all the banned emails from this site to my ban list. Well this was like 300 thousand addresses---> BOOM! Locked me completely out of a bunch of stuff: 1) no more adding new bans 2) no new registrants 3) no access to the ban email menu to reverse what I'd done.
I eventually made a backup (this is on a phpbb forum) of all the phpbb tables except the Ban list. I restored from a recent backup, then over wrote with the newest back up. Well it worked and there are probably easier ways of fixing it but they're beyond my know-how. But I think what the replies are saying to you is that this is something you do on your end and this site can't help with that. Best of luck to you.

Re: screwed up my bb somehow
I am happy to learn I ain't the only unfortunate having this problem. It seems to me that either phpBB 2.0.23 or the SQL database has a limit of how many values can be entered in those places. I am not sure.
Right now by importing the phpbb_bans.sql file I have the following amount of values for each table:
(1) phpbb_banlist (table) - 90,955 entries
(2) phpbb_disallow (table) - 190,623 entries
Since the phpbb_disallow table has a lot of entries, as a result, I can't view nor select any usernames in the Disallow Names ACP. The dropdown box is not showing. Though, I am still able to add more usernames. I just won't be able to see the results whether it was added or not, until I go visit the database.
Fortunately, I am still able to enter and view the dropdown boxes in the Ban Control ACP on my site.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I would appreciate the tips. I think it due that I have perhaps over-exceeded the limited for the value entries for the phpbb_disallow table, and I might soon reach the limit for the phpbb_banlist pretty soon. Perhaps the limit is 100,000?

Best of all, you wont need to have a massive banned IP database at all. Spammers will be blocked before they can even get to the registration phase The odd one or two that may get in, are easily dealt with but don't hold your breath waiting for a spammer to get in
Spam - Uninteresting garbage quickly deleted.

So it just protects me from black listed IPs? But what about blacklisted usernames and email addresses? So I still keep those? And just flush out the blocked IP addresses on my database?

ZBblock doesn't deal with usernames and e-mail addresses. It blocks known spammer Ips from being ablt to register on your site/forum. They can still view pages but that is all.
If you get a persistant spammer, you can block their IP, a range of IPs or even countries within you custom.inc file. This help to save on your system resources.
Zap is the best person to talk intricacies with ZBBlock as he is the man. I just use it and ask his help when needed.
