Stop spam registrations automatically (phpBB)
Hi everyone - i'm new here but this site has been so helpful in ridding my forum of spam, I thought i'd let you all know of an easier way to stop it (at least for phpBB forums anyway)
I used to get a lot of spam registrations on my forum and going through them all to verify them really was a big pain! I recently stumbled across a mod on the ProphpBB Support Forum that automatically checks against Username, IP and email address at the registration stage and verifies them against the database here. If any matches are found (I think it needs 2 matches out of 3 ) it denies registration, and is a great way of stopping human spammers. It really saves me time and I haven't seen a spam registration since.

If you need to reply to a spammer, at least drop the links from the quote! 
Better yet, just push the report link and don't comment at all.

Well, they WERE on here.
It's usually human assisted bots on a fresh IP.
It's like sticking tweezers in a power outlet for them though.
If they are stupid enough to spam here, their data gets added to the database, and they find everything has closed down.

Cool. Actually, the time that SFS has freed up for me has given me time to 'entrap' spammers and add them to the list! It's fun.

It's like breaking & entering into the police chief's home... or holding up the police station, but people are stupid enough to do it!
Especially since spammers aren't exactly on the upper half of the bell curve...
Spam happens when greed meets stupidity.
