Plugin for MyBB now available

Hi, my name is Tim and I am a member at MyBB. I just developed a stopforumspam plugin for MyBB which prevents registration to known spammers.

I still ask myself how the spambots can circumvent the captcha on myBB?
Does anyone have an idea about it?
After I reprogrammed the captcha, so that you have to type in the number of x instead of the word you see, I again catched a spam bot.
So I guess they somehow completely bypass the captcha.
So is anyone knowledgeable about this topic?

Hothouse human captcha solvers are the way.

Just use keepvid.c0m and download a youtube video with it. You too will be abused to solve a google captcha for ill gotten gains.

Though it didnt ask me to verify a capture, I see what you mean.
So the captures are really solved by humans, gosh!

Perhaps my last resort would then be to build a "captcha"
with nerd questions, which only could be answered by people who are interested in the forum topic...hm

You'll see a cheap Human in India/China/African IP signup and then a USA/Germany/UK/Russia IP (bot) do the spamming...

Strangely though most of spammers that get past SFS and catchpa have polish email, many gmail etc also. Polish IPs are popular in spamming our Irish site too.

At the moment, the majority of IPs I see are from Russia and Ukraine. A dead give away.

Wow! I wish someone would work on the SFS phpBB 3 plugin.

The thread over there in their forums says the SFS plugin is not safe to use and plenty of users are unsatisfied.

I am now on a phpBB 3.0.6 brand new forum and we can hardly wait to use the SFS plugin.

Congrats on the great work for MyBB forums though.

Well, if you only want IP blocking capabilities (plus hack neutralization), you could try ZB Block.

I get very few spammers who make it onto my site, and they are usually human hackers trying to social engineer a hole into ZB Block, or a work around (or so it seems). So due to this, submitting manually is no big problem for me.

Also, ZBB has been written with phpBB3 in mind, as it's running on the development system. Most if not all compatibility fixes have been for other systems.

Thanks zaphod, the owner of the forum said he contacted you via email about this and info on your blocker.

I also wonder if MysteryCFM might have a product we could use alongside your ZBblock for our forum phpBB 3.0.6 install...

Kinda like a double-protection anti-spammer thing I have in mind.
