Unusual IP address - Add Spam Data won't take it
I'll preface this by saying I'm not a techie so use small words.
We had a spammer sign up and post on our forum from an unusual looking IP address with a format that I have never encountered before:
2409:4061:280:ad3d:a48c
I searched for the above IP here on SFS and it returned one record using this IP:
2409:4061:280:ad3d::/64
I'm trying to add data but the form keeps putting up a red error field saying:
THERE WAS IN AN ERROR IN THE FOLLOWING FIELDS: IP ADDRESS, IP ADDRESS CANNOT BE ADDED [QUAD9DNS]

IPv6 rather than IPv4. I know nothing about that (nor the error message), so will need to leave the answer to someone better qualified.

Hmm, thanks for reporting this, I'm have a look at this. The Quad9 rule (mentioned) doesnt allow the submission of the string "9.9.9.9" so I'm curious how this is being triggered.

Re: Unusual IP address - Add Spam Data won't take it
2409:4061:280:ad3d:a48c
Isn't a valid IPv6 address
2409:4061:280:ad3d:a48c::0 is
2409:4061:280:ad3d::a48c is
but
2409:4061:280:ad3d:a48c is missing 64 bits of data
It won't add this to the DB but it still shouldn't throw a Quad9 error

So, 'QUAD9DNS' is nothing to do with quad9.net (Swiss, free DNS lookup service operated by the Quad9 Foundation)?
PS
9.9.9.9 == dns9.quad9.net

Re: Unusual IP address - Add Spam Data won't take it
"Quad9DNS" => array("9.9.9.9/32")
that's the line in the submission code that does the checking. I have a billion things to do but i'll check out why this is doing this tonight

Re: Unusual IP address - Add Spam Data won't take it
I have found at least one scenario in which the QUAD9DNS error will be thrown.
Today someone posted a message about CBD Gummies on this forum. That stupid individual instantly got banned & reported into the SFS dB. However, when I first tried to do that I got this error. It took me some moments to realise the simple mix-up that had caused it. It happened like this (I'm not going to post all details in this thread, but the evidence is here):
THERE WAS IN AN ERROR IN THE FOLLOWING FIELDS: IP ADDRESS, EMAIL ADDRESS, IP ADDRESS CANNOT BE ADDED [QUAD9DNS]
Spammer username=spammy-username
Spammer email address=2401:4900:1f34:59f0:d75:ed8c:e1c9:7bac
Spammer IP address=spammy-email-address
You will have noted that I got the email address & IP address the wrong way around. I switched them the right way around & reposted & up it went.
