Bad Guys trying to get sites/IP's listed as spammers?
This is a weird thing, and I'm not sure how it can happen, because the IP address is mine, but the email is not.
There is a guy that doesn't like me that registered the sneakydave@gmail.com email account (not mine).
He sends email to people, asking them to visit my personal site, in an attempt to get the email address listed as a spammer.
Here's where it's weird.
http://www.stopforumspam.com/evidence/60955847
My home IP is listed in the SFS database, with the email address I don't own, with the email evidence showing the blatant spam.
How is this possible? Do I need to file a removal request everytime this happens? I'm curious how my IP (which is a new ISP provider) can be attached to this email account that I don't own?
Thanks

Oh I see what must have happened, the AHole submitted his own bogus report based on my IP address (which he must have found out), and a fake email address.

Send a PM to Pedigree, citing this thread, with a removal request (not at the removal request URL, just in words!). Ped will probably spot this thread anyway, but that should help.

Unless this is statically assigned, it could've been away that had it allocated. DHCP at its best

Re: Bad Guys trying to get sites/IP's listed as spammers?
If it's a newly registered API key and that's the only submission, he had the nerve to signup for a key and submit the data here against site policy.
If he had signed up on a forum and posted that link, and then the forum submitted the info to SFS legitimately, it wouldn't have your IP now, would it? Unless he somehow used your IP/computer as a proxy to post the spam. Have you scanned your computer for malware?
My guess is it's a bogus submission that should be removed, and the API key revoked. Pedigree would have the information needed to make that determination for sure. I'm just posting wild-arsed guesses here.
Spam happens when greed meets stupidity.

Re: Bad Guys trying to get sites/IP's listed as spammers?
But a person could submit a report here with any IP and email can't they, using the "add a spammer" link? It doesn't have to be through forum registration or another interface. Although, yeah, it should be tied to an api key.
I used to have a static IP, but I changed ISP's recently. I would have thought it was just bad luck getting assigned a spammer IP address, but noticed the evidence report referred to my own site as well as an email account with my username in it.

They can, but it has consequences...
The API key is required. That uniquely identifies the reporter. Many false reports (and just like the `last, little drink' folks will never stop at one) means that privileges get permanently removed. That then means that they are at the mercy of all spammers.

The only "bad guy" here is the spammer.

So it is.
SFS will not get involved in that - either side. Any troll activity in these forums will cause the individuals that try it on to be banned and, if spam, added into the DB.

As it should be.
Was only pointing out that the spam report was legitimate (screenshot from post) and that there is an on going history behind this individual.
Thanks
