Member registration issues
Hi
I have had a genuine member try to join my website but received an error that it could not connect to the database..
I have also notice very few registrations today which may or may not be correct but seems odd... I have checked the logs and there is a load of entries all look to b spam..
Any idea if there has been an issue?
Stuart

Re: Member registration issues
Yes. There is a vast uptick in spam from new emails not yet in SFS. See SFS report + OSM report.
Added later:
Then again, the API seems to have died (0 unique enquiries on the Stats page) so maybe it is that. I've sent an email to prod pedigree, so we will see.

Re: Member registration issues
My HPs are still doing the usual roughly 15-20 reports/hour so my end is still sending them in.

Re: Member registration issues
On unique clients only:
May 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 == ~2,000 enquiries/day, and at some point between it twice dropped to zero.
May 21 is currently (17:56 BST) back up to >78,000, so seems to have recovered.

Re: Member registration issues
So it seems there was an issue with forums accessing the forum spam database?
I have had registrations today OK

Re: Member registration issues
@stuarttunstall:
It seems that way. pedigree is the only guy that has Admin access to the API, so until he reports we are all mostly blind as to what was happening.
@NeoTiger:
The amount of time that the whole thing takes to load I should hope that someone manages to get a little fun from it. BTW Ukraine has been #1 like forever.

Re: Member registration issues
I'm not sure if the API or the Stats package (or both) has crashed. 'Unique Clients' seems to bump along the bottom although today's figure is always normal (but never yesterday's). I've sent a 2nd message to pedigree.

Re: Member registration issues
checking in
the stats here were broken entirely by me changing the way that they are recorded. before they were taken from the API updating memcache on just the www.stopforumspam.com/api query, but I changed that so that it recorded all the unique clients across all the load balanced nodes.
I did have a dead node on a server, but traffic stopped routing to that quickly, within seconds. My monitoring also blew up over a 12 hour period, just as I went to bed as it happened, which resulted in a lot of "flapping" on/off of queries to servers but that was entirely my side and limited to only the VPN connection between the monitoring box as the server, nothing that would impact the servers ability to do API queries
What api endpoint are you using for your queries? www.stopforumspam.com/api or api.stopforumspam.org/api?

Re: Member registration issues
well, i just looked at my code and realised that i should not code at 2am. I'll reset the stats figures for those dates after the code stat data is inserted tomorrow.
Bit of a false herring sorry, but if there is an api problem, i want to fix it

Re: Member registration issues
Hah! 'Unique Clients' has literally flat-lined (every month shows '41,983'). This is the moment to discover that backup() has never worked properly.

Re: Member registration issues
backup() works thanks to the glory of a slave replica with an hour ZFS snapshot
