IPv6 Support

So how soon can we expect Stop Forum Spam to support IPv6 IP Addresses?  Asia, particularly China, seems to be using them more aggressively.

It's well underway.  The API, DB and submission all now supports IPv6 on my dev box but there is a lot of other code that I need to work on before I can make it live.  If I don't get it right, then I kill a lot of forums

Hi,

how is the API with the IPv6 support today? As I got some errors reported by my system and it all died on IPv6 address of facebook scrambler (its setup to detect only when user (guest) is posting comments, but I enabled it to detect all activity, just to test if even works when I got those errors):

file_get_contents(http://www.stopforumspam.com/api?ip=2a03:2880:3010:6ff5:face:b00c:0000:0001&f=serial): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 503

When you go to that URL, you just get "Error: Iinvalid IP" returned.

No it doesnt.  The IPv6 is being tested by an external developer at the moment.

Ok then, I just set that error as ignored, so it won't bother me in future, but right now any spammer with IPv6 can just happily spam without fear of you...

Anyway, I already got two people blacklisted, so everything works, now just wait for IPv6 support (as we are actually almost out of usable IPv4 addresses). Any ETA on arival of IPv6 support?

Pending the test outcome, it shouldnt be too far away.  I have back end schedule tasks to finish out as some are still IPv4 only, like the downloadable files so I need to split them off into IPv4, IPv6 and combined

So, how its going? IPv4 addresses are almost gone so in close future, there will be much more IPv6 users and mainly bots and I do not like that future if stopforumspam will not support IPv6.

Looking forward on this My boxes are running IPv6 for some time now.

Comcast says any attempt to circumvent their ISP settings and get IPv6 they reserve the right to cancel my service. I've emailed them twice about it.

IPv6 seems interesting to me and I've tried to email Comcast if there's any way I can get a IPv6 address or if they even allow it and boy they got real defensive both emails.

Background info:
I'm taking a Cisco beginner's course getting the basics on the TCP/IP stack and such and for some reason since IPv6 is the "next thing" I thought I'd develop an interest and learn about it outside of class. Well, now I got that interest and I can't apply it I don't think?

Thinking about getting a cheap little router and see if I can at least attempt to learn IPv6 and what it all entails using that route.

I loathe IPv6, I really do.  I'm working on the IPv6 code as we speak, even before my first coffee has been finished

Bump.

Although my hosting is not IPv6 enabled, I do get people visiting and registering with IPv6 addresses passed through google's proxies.
I'm not seeing a lot of this yet, but I wanted to flag this additional way that forums can see IPv6 traffic - even on IPv4-only hosting.
I think this means that practically every forum will get IPv6-origined registrants showing up occasionally, whether they identify them or not.

Is this a dead topic? I see that Stop Forum Spam is either not accepting IPv6 addresses or I am sending the IP incorrectly.

i'll put a copy on beta.stopforumspam.com if you want to look at the new site?  the database is a snapshot due to the horrific amounts of schema change, so it cannot run a copy of the live DB in realtime

Starting getting IPv6 sign ups for the past month now. Finally got hit with a paid pet scam ad coming in from Thailand on IPv6 - we can only block the IP range for now.

Unless you guys roll the beta over to the live site, these guys (or any aggressive spammers over IPv6) will use their same email and IP setup to hit other sites.

It's already there, isn't it? Search for "2001:" in the database, for example - lots of IPv6 hits.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of that, thanks. I'll have to let the creator of the Drupal "spambot" module know that, because that module still doesn't check IPv6 against SFS database.

IPv6 has been supported for a while. IPv6 addresses are listed by /64 subnet

How is reporting a count by the /64 helpful for checking?  Am I missing something here?  But since switching to using Cloudflare (which requires supporting IPv6), all my IPv6 registrations are triggering on the IP matches.  When I checked a bunch manually, it's clear that the "count" is referring to the match against the /64.  This seems like it makes IPv6 support meaningless, no?  You might as well make IPv6 /8 matches, so that anyone with the same first octet (i.e. 123.x.x.x) count as being "the same IP". 

All I seem to find is that new IPv6 registrations are lumped together because they have the same ISP (and maybe regional proximity), as spammers.  Please tell me I'm missing something here such that it's possible to get more granular than a count of the match with the /64 being the same.
