US Mirror

After the recent outage due to disk failure, pedigree mentioned the US mirror. I searched the forums (mirror, us mirror) and didn't find anything except a mention of some other url's that mention US based ip's vs. ASPAC or other. Can someone provide some details as to what the mirror has and how or if it differs from www.sfs.com/api.
