Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

I regret that my words have sounded so sharply. There are times when there is nobody to answer to a question - just as it is now. People are celebrating Easter and not everyone will come here on holiday. Sorry again!
As for the ZB Block - it is a wonderful decision.

Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

I noticed lately that search IP's against blacklists doesn't seem to be checking half of them any more (Project Honeypot and BotScout) accurately.

I was wondering how come?

To show what I mean I have uploaded an image to imgur.com:

Spammers are attracted to my medical site so I came here.

"ZB Block is Raid for spammers" - Snowhog
I always submit "Evidence" as spammers can always say they didn't spam without that proof.

Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

Found a couple of "bugettes" in v0.50 (working via the Web interface):

1. For some reason, it didn't create the table "tblspammers" in my database - didn't look into this too hard as I just manually built the table and it was then happy. Could be something I screwed up.

2. In submit.php, line 14

if( strpos($sTempVar, 'submit.php') || !strpos($sTempHost, $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']) ){

should be

if( strpos($sTempVar, 'submit.php') || strpos($sTempHost, $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']) ){

3. In check_spammers.php line 353 is a debug line that's wants commenting out.

4. Logging to file only seemed to work "sometimes", but I think the latest patch (Jan 11, 2011) corrects that.

Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

I have a friend being bombarded with spam on her songwriters forum, I am wanting to help her but really am not familar with spam blockers, I believe the site is hosted by NING. Will this blocker work for her and if so could you send me a link on how to install it? Here is the site address if that helps at all.

Thanks

Hello Paul,

I did this script with simple javascript code that can be added to any webpage where you need protection from bots and spammers. (no programming knowledge needed ) wink

Recommended to use mainly in registration pages

here is the code on this thread:

1. Backup your existing config.php file
2. Create a new config.php by copying and renaming config.sample.php
3. Enter your config/settings in the new config.php file

Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

I been readinmg same post and it says:

2. Enter your ProjectHoneyPot and BotScout API keys in config.php (it'll ignore these databases if you do not specify them and will notify you on the web interface)

All I see is config.sample.php

Do I edit this file and where do I put my key for this site?

Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

Is this right:

// StopForumSpam API Key
// Key goes here?
// Note: This key is required if you wish to submit data to stopforumspam.com
$sSFSAPI='';

Re: Spambot detector (with the use of this API)

It is, yes, the key goes between the apostrophe;

$sSFSAPI='YOUR_KEY_HERE';
