Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
Got an attempted registry from
Sokanon
74.54.206.66
ram8894u+98552@gmail.com
hostname: 42.ce.364a.static.theplanet.com
On our SMF forum.
The Stopforumspam list changed its email to ram8894@gmail.com
When I tried to ban it, the SMF forum didn't recognize the longer email address as valid and wouldn't let me ban. So I changed the email to the one on SFS and banned that instead.
However, the admin info told me the account was still awaiting approval. Hmm. I tried banning it again, and they told me it was already banned. I slightly changed the ban name, banned it again, and found it still there awaiting approval. I tried to delete the account and it wouldn't go away. Yikes.
In the end I went to the admin memberlist and removed it there, and it finally went away (Phew!).
Any idea why this happened?

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
Yes, everything after the + is ignored by gmail. So when you search, everything after the + is removed by us. The api will still match the name.
Please see: http://www.stopforumspam.com/forum/t106 … rom-anyway
In other words, the longer e-mail address is invalid, and a lame attempt to cloak the real one.
This pretty much is a problem only with gmail.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
Sorry I wasn't clear. What I meant was, does anybody know why the heck I couldn't delete the registration? Normally they go away when I ban them.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
I just noticed that...
ram8894u+98552@gmail.com = ram8894u@gmail.com
ram8894u@gmail.com != (does not equal) ram8894@gmail.com (as you had posted)
Looks like a new mail address.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
How about banning ram8894u*@gmail.com and anything that would be added afterwards (with or without a + ) as well as the "plain" version would be banned.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
As stated before, see http://www.stopforumspam.com/forum/t106 … rom-anyway ... it gives all the reasons.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
Yeah, I remember that post - but now I actually meant the forum ban. * can be used as a wild card so anyone trying to register with any combination would be denied.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
Can't use wildcards here, as innocents would be caught.
And we surely can't accept them, as that could lead to database poisoning. Imagine if someone added *@gmail.com to the database here, the havoc that would cause.

Re: Had Trouble Kicking This One Out
No Zap, I think you are still misunderstanding me. I am taking about (manually) banning someone on my (or anyone's) forum. I have recently banned a registered member (still inactivated) with an email address runner2(at)forexstrategyvault(dot)com. Of course I banned him as *(at)forexstrategyvault(dot)com as the domain is apparently not a free email provider and I am very unlikely to welcome any further members from there.![]()
I would certainly not submit the email address like that into the database but the original one only. Then every user can decide what to do with the correct data.

Oh okay. Sorry. I understand you now. Yes, you could use wildcards on your forum.
I thought you were referring to how the data should be stored in the database here.
