Re: Some sort of milestone...

Ahhh, so his submissions were fouled (arkadia)? Or just questionable due to the source?

Zap hmm

Re: Some sort of milestone...

We added SFS on 20th Oct and since then we have added maybe 60 real users. The log of pedigree's great plugin has over 1450 entries (just less than 2 months).

Activity seems on increase, so I estimate within 1 to 2 years we will have submitted a 1000 spammers sad

Latest spam is bad english posts asking for opinions on a new Website (which indeed was an hours old Wordpress robot filled job). All Polish. (At least 3 successful registrations. Though even after a successful registration the "user" may try to register again in hours or next day). Our forum doesn't allow reuse of user names within a year on deleted accounts and doesn't allow more than one user to have same email, also we add emails to built in permanent block list when deleting users*)

The usernames / emails usually have "kredyt" in them which is Polish for Credit.

The spammer or bot seems to be advertising Student Credit. But I wonder is it the scam where cheap credit is offered and when you apply you have to pay an "administration charge". Then you never hear anything more. I can't see a real Polish Agency using a botnet to spam like this (some of the IPs have been identified as part of Bot net)

Composite Blocking List http://cbl.abuseat.org/
94.42.30.245 is currently listed in the CBL
This is the bagle-cb spamBOT

(* To Do: edit VB internal email block list to block any alias email, e.g. google. We won't be upgrading VB ever. Maybe change to different forum SW when current VB gets no more security updates).

Re: Some sort of milestone...

I myself have contributed 15,229 entries. Ironically, almost half of them come directly from the Stop Forum Spam forum itself.

Re: Some sort of milestone...

Doesn't this go to show that they really do not give a toss about sites like this which try to combat them. They simply ignore the issue and it (IMO) seems to work for them as there is an infinate number of Ip's, names and e-mails they can use. So sad that the people who can help stop them (ISPs etc) dont use or take note of the data here, or on other similar services sad

Re: Some sort of milestone...

Now I've just passed spammer #300.  It'll be interesting to see how long the next 100 takes.  Or maybe not.

Re: Some sort of milestone...

I recently upgraded to IP.B 3 and (though I know it will change) more than two weeks later, have not had a single spam registration. cool

Re: Some sort of milestone...

I don't remember the exact date I implemented SFS, but I just dug up my old thread and here's a few stats:

Feb 10th = 703 Reported
Feb 16th = 1063 Reported
Mar  3rd = 2096 Reported

God bless SFS, their site is an invaluable resource to the Internet.

Of course, after realizing some bot trends I can already auto-ban certain registration attempts before even querying SFS.. wink

I also made my first entry on Oct 20 last year and now it's 2173 spammer entries after just 4.5 months (but we have like another 1000 legit members in every two weeks)

I am not saying I am glad but indeed SFS is an invaluable resource - thanks guys.
