System blocked name that it should not of

Greetings

I am running the system on my websit www.norcalcanyoncarvers.com
A friend of mine registered and was rejected as spam

What I have found was it was triggered by his user name jimmie

He has logged into other sites I have operated with no issues, his email and IP address is not in the spam list only the name

My question is

Should not the check be cross referenced meaning name ip and email if all three options are checked?

Below I have had to turn the Check by Name off

If username filtering if off, it wont test for usernames.

If any tested field is matched, then a spam rejection is given, not if all tested fields are found to be listed.

Humm, I have used this product for a long time on other forums having all three items checked, never has Jimmie been selected

I thought the product intelegenced cross checked for match Name + IP + Email

If say Name and IP matched I understand or if Name + Email matched I understand, but this just pulled NAME only.

Seems odd behavior

Well, being the person that wrote it, I can tell you that if a field is selected for testing and it tests for that field and that field is a database hit and fulfills the age expiry set, then it stops processing there and presents the error. It does nothing like "if username is a hit and email is a hit and ip is a hit, then do the blocking"...

I assume this is the Remote Expiry option which is default at 90

As I understand it, it really is the luck of the draw then for users, So I may even be loosing possible members legit members, because of this logic?

I guess then them I will need to let them register but moderate the ne registers. Bummer, but it is better then fighting back the onslught on line when they access and post their garbage.

username is probbly the least reliable indicator of a spammer. email and ip address seem to be much more reliable. the expiry bring 90 will catch any spammer called jimmie thats in the database as a laseen of 3 months so you might want to drop it.

drop the 90 down or drop the name as disabled?

As it is, I have set the registers to be allowed but will Moderate all user new....

This is simple. "Jimmie" is too generic a name for anyone to be registering at a website anywhere.

Try getting an email address with jimmie or registering at any medium-sized site anywhere on the web. It might have worked in 1993 but not anymore.

Really, "jimmie" and he's surprised it doesn't work?
