Re: Thunderbird extension?

The problem with Spamihilator is that it currently has this habit of dropping mail into the un-known abyss, never to be seen again.

Re: Thunderbird extension?

In Windows, I used to use a free program called Email Remover:
http://www.email-remover.com/contents/download.htm

I have tested Email Remover in Windows 7 and it works just fine.

Since switching to Linux, however, I use a KDE program called KShowMail:
http://kshowmail.sourceforge.net/

Neither of these programs are filters.  Instead they allow you to view and delete email from the POP server before you download anything.

These are "human filters" and both allow you to preview any email safely before deleting.

Re: Thunderbird extension?

There is another free program that I hesitate to mention only because it contains nagware.  But it adds an extra function that may be worth the nagging.  It allows you to bounce an e-mail.  This makes it appear as if your e-mail address does not exist.

Your ISP must allow you access to the mail server in order to bounce an e-mail.  And some spammers do not have actual return addresses, so it may not work for every message.

MailWasher can be found here:

Re: Thunderbird extension?

As nice as bouncing SOUNDS. It's a horrible idea as most spammers are faking the From, ReplyTo fields, etc.  You in the end become part of the problem by making the problem worse.

Re: Thunderbird extension?

Warning: If the spammer has used a fake address, then your bounce message will itself be bounced back to the postmaster and you won't receive the bounced bounce email. So please don't use this feature to bounce back spam as most spam is sent from fake sender addresses, so the bounces go nowhere and may annoy your internet service provider.

From:  http://www.mailwasher.net/frequently-asked-questions

Very true.  That's why this warning is posted on their Web site and this warning pops up every time you bounce an e-mail.
