A Spammer's Objections

This is a first for me...

I recently banned a spammer who tracked me down at another forum and joined that forum just to send me a private message objecting to being banned.

I posted a response to this individual's complaint.

http://www.computerforumz.com/showthread.php?t=8729

I'm curious to see if any other members have had similar experiences.

Poor spammers... did you tell him to cry you a river?

As a private site and a private owner, you have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason (or even no reason)...

"or even no reason" I used to hear that a lot at school."why did you hit that little boy "answer "oh no reason at all"
Another one when a teacher is asking how a little boy got a black eye "oh i was walking along and i walked into this guys fist"

Re: A Spammer's Objections

Good points all.

That's true, a forum is a privately owned site and can ban any member.  We try to give every new member the benefit of the doubt.  So if someone is banned, there is a reason.

No, I have not yet reported this spammer.  But I have good cause to report this information to this site.

To date, I have found this spammer at 21 other Web sites.  With a few exceptions the majority of those sites are forums.  But this is not unusual when link farming.

What is unusual is the fact that the spam post in question was over 3 years old.  And this member had not even visited my forum until they were banned.

I've been systematically reviewing all members' profiles and removing spam that was either missed or simply not recognized as spam.  And this member's one single post caught my attention.

Another strange aspect to this tale is this banned member's business Web site contains little more than contact information.  The majority of his/her site is "under construction" and has been for at least the past eight months.  (This information comes from a controversy that this spammer was directly involved in last summer, concerning the marketing of rogue software.)

And for someone who claims to run a successful Web design and SEO marketing firm, they have a very dysfunctional Web site and horrible Google rankings.  I searched through more than 400 Google links searching for "web design seo marketing company" and could not get this spammers site to come up.

Some Web design and SEO marketing "expert."  They can't even market their own Web site.  Which only reinforces my belief that spamming is their only means of promotion.

Re: A Spammer's Objections

That's great that you post about him/her in here but it would benefit in a much bigger way a lot more people if you added the data to the SFS database. Please do so as soon as you can.

That will be one less parasite those relying on the database for protection will have to worry about.

Re: A Spammer's Objections

Yes, I agree, add their info to the SFS database...

They can whine all they want, but what it boils down to is their are unethical and immoral parasites that ruin the Internet.

Just the other day, I had a spammer on my site, which I thought was odd seeing as how I've pretty much eliminated the problem... One look at their account and I realized the person registered over two years ago! They posted a couple spams back then (that got missed) and went inactive all that time. Someone must of dug up an old list!

This one never logged back in until they were banned.

And the only reason they knew they were banned is because I clicked on their spam link.  Their Web site log reported that someone clicked on that link.

Would you be concerned about a 4-year-old account?

Re: A Spammer's Objections

That IP or email address or username or combination of any of the three can still be doing some damages. So yes I am concerned. Every spammer stopped is good by me.
