This is interesting...

Hello all, I am new here... The vBulletin forum of which I am a Super Mod at has (like many other VB forums) been attacked by spammers within the past couple of weeks... I have sorted through everything and banned all of them, except for one which just joined...

The guy who just joined, username James, has an e-mail of james420@123mail.org and an IP address of 128.241.43.144... Now the e-mail is on here, and the IP address is on here, but they do not match... The e-mail is for a Jeannette (with a different IP), and the IP address is for a Patricia (with a differnt e-mail)...

Since we are a small forum, I hate to ban people who do not deserve to be... Is this just a way of a spammer "mixing it up"? Should I own him? big_smile

Thank you...

Re: This is interesting...

Well, I guess that username "James" was bad too... He has been "private messaging" for like ten minutes which I thought was very suspicious, so I decided to delve further into his e-mail and IP address... Apparently he sends out PMs about Buddhism, oh...

It is weird though because whenever you send someone a PM on VB it will say "creating private message for XXXXXX" but he was only "private messaging"... Do you think he got any out? I can not see since I am only a Super Mod, oh well...

Oh, maybe the 10 minutes I gave him was not enough... Now he is "Creating Private Message" but getting an error message...

I know this reply is a bit late, but it may help others.

There's a lot of helpful info and links here:
